Elder Dr. Charles Brown Jr. is a proud native of New York City, born and raised in Brooklyn, and a graduate of Canarsie High School, class of 1975. After completing an associate’s degree in liberal arts from Medgar Evers College, he dedicated a decade of his life to serving in the United States Navy during the 1980s, achieving the rank of First Class Petty Officer.
In 1991, Dr. Brown relocated to Virginia first to Front Royal, then to Winchester where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the Science of Nursing from Shenandoah University (May 2002). His pursuit of excellence in education continued with a Doctorate in Health Care Administration from the University of Phoenix in May 2006, followed by a Master of Divinity from the University of the South School of Theology in March 2012, grounded in the Episcopal/Anglican tradition.
Since 2013, Dr. Brown has called Washington, D.C. home. He further advanced his expertise by earning a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Chamberlain University in May 2023. Currently, Dr. Brown serves with the local government of the District of Columbia, managing mental illness and behavioral health initiatives that impact countless lives.
Elder Dr. Brown’s career and community service reflect his unwavering commitment to health, faith, and social justice. He dedicated over a decade to Us Helping Us, People into Living Inc., where he served as a case manager, nurse practitioner, and advocate for the African American community in the fight against HIV and AIDS. His work with My Brother’s Keeper has supported African American men in urban areas and re-entry programs. He has also contributed to Metro Health DC, Community Health Connections, SERKEL, and continues to serve through Kingdom Ministries, focusing on holistic health and community empowerment.
